Walkathon 2017 Final Hours

It’s hard to believe it’s been 3 weeks since we started our Walkathon fundraising, but here we are! Tomorrow, by noon, August 31 is the deadline to donate to the 2017 Superhero Walkathon.  The last Friday for drawings will be this Friday, September 1, and earned swag will be delivered to students the week of the Walkathon in late September.  Remember, the following donation per child will earn:
$10 – Superhero glasses
$40 – Glasses and superhero sports bottle
$70 – Glasses, sports bottle and t-shirt
$100 – All of the above and a duffle bag
Remember you can send in your donation to school (any amount) or donate online ($10 or more) at We can’t thank our families enough who have donated so far; we literally cannot provide the support for our school without you! We are a little under $4,000 shy of making it to the principal superhero stunt tier so get those donations in tomorrow!!

Walkathon Update

Many thanks to everyone who has donated to the Walkathon! Top classes for the Culvers Custard Party SO FAR are:

5th: Paul/Ferriell

6th: Seybold/Hubert

7th: Ms. Bruner

8th: Ms. Williams

Winning teachers get a $50 Amazon gift card AND some lucky kids will get to visit the Candy Bar one last time on Friday, September 1!

This week is our last push to reach our ultimate goal of $28,000.  In addition to the individual and class, we have school-wide incentive goals:

$10,000 Spidey popsicles at walkathon for all superheroes

$12,000 Walkathon games—some hulk smash, webbed adventures, and other superhero stunts

$14,000 Everyone can become their own Superhero in a superhero dress up day at school

$18,000 Superhero surprise day of walkathon

$22,000 Our three principals will do superhero stunts selected by the students at Walkathon

$28,000 Jag Bash at the end of the year

The success of last year’s Walkathon allowed us to develop the teacher grant program, fund Random Acts of Kindness, and throw the very first Jag Bash for our students. So far this year we’ve raised about $12,000–which is wonderful! But we’d love to be able to offer the Jag Bash again and continue the wonderful programs we started last year. If you haven’t yet gotten a chance to donate, you can send money into  school or donate online ($10 or more) at Donations are due this Thursday, August 31. Thank you to all our wonderful Jag families!

Walkathon Fun

From our awesome Walkathon Chairs:

You’re much stronger than you think you are. Trust Me. -Superman

Help support your child’s 7th period teacher—the winning class in each grade will get a Culver’s custard party AND their teacher will receive a $50 amazon gift card! 5th and 6th grade teaching teams that win will each get a custard party and the teachers will split the Amazon gift card.

Want more fun? One of our goals is to see our three principals/assistant principals do super stunts—we must raise $22,000 for this to happen. Our principals will attempt these daring feats at our Walkathon on September 27 for their grade levels to see! (Rain date September 28)

Remember you can send your donation into school or you can donate online this year at Thank you to our many capeless heroes helping support our school these past few weeks!

Spirit Wear Orders

Just a reminder that spirit wear orders are due tomorrow, August 16. If your student did not bring home a spirit wear form, you can print one here: spiritwearfall2017

Terrific Third Thursday is This Week!

From our Fundraising Chair Amy: WE WALK & WE EAT—that is how we raise money for our PTO at HHMS! We hope you join us for our first THIRD THURSDAYS ARE TERRIFIC this week!
It’s the third Thursday of the month this week and we want to encourage you to shop at Kroger, turn in your boxtops and have dinner at Chick-Fil-A.
If you haven’t made HHMS PTO your Kroger Plus Community Organization we would love for you to do this! Any time you shop at Kroger our PTO gets a kick back for your shopping. It is an EASY way for us to raise money for our school.
You can go to, select the ‘Community Tab’ and the dropdown menu will allow you to select ‘Kroger Community Rewards.’ Make sure you have Highland Hills Middle School PTO as your preferred Community Organization.
Thanks as always for your support!

Candy Donations Needed

From our Walkathon Chairs, Amy and Stefanie:

“You know, it’s times like these when I realize what a superhero I am.” – IRONMAN

Candy donations needed for our ‘Captain America Cup of Candy’ Friday drawings. Please send donations of candy in with your kids by Wednesday, August 16th. Please no nuts. Thanks in advance for helping us with the Walkathon!

New Parent Coffee and Doughnuts

FYI for our new parents and those who volunteered already for this event: The school’s new parent coffee and doughnuts scheduled for the morning of Tuesday, August 15 has been cancelled. A replacement event is currently in the works and will be announced soon.

PTO Meeting and Walkathon

Jag Families,

PTO hopes everyone’s school year has gotten off to a great start! We want to remind everyone that tonight is our first PTO meeting of the year at 6pm in the school library/media center. All families, teachers, and staff of HHMS are welcome to attend!  We schedule meetings at both 4 pm and 6 pm, depending on the month, in an effort to accommodate various schedules.

And now a message from our Walkathon Chairs, Amy and Stefanie:

“It’s not who I am underneath, but what I do that defines me.” –Batman

Is it a bird? Is it a plane? No…it’s our capeless heroes because not all superheroes wear capes. We are asking all HHMS parents to become our capeless crusaders by helping us as we kick off our Capeless Crusade Walkathon. Information and envelopes will be coming home with your student this week. If you don’t want to worry about the paperwork—

We’ve gone digital: donate online! (minimum $10 to donate online)

On September 27, 2017 each grade will participate in a walkathon around our track to help raise money for our school. This money goes to support events like Jag days, random acts of kindness program, teacher appreciation lunches, teacher grants, success cards, and I-STEP treats among other programs throughout our school year.

The PTO is again offering tiers of prizes for donations starting at as little as $5.00! For every $5.00 a student donates, they will get their name in weekly drawings for our Captain America Cups of candy starting Friday, August 18th. We will have three weeks of drawings offering many chances to win. The earlier you donate, the more opportunity to win! (Money must be turned in by Thursday noon to be entered in to the Friday drawing.)

We will have individual incentives, classroom incentives, and school wide incentives. This is a fun event for our kids and an easy way for you to donate.

Money should be turned in to the PTO boxes located in the gym or by the PTO room in the commons. Do not turn in to your teachers—look for the superhero boxes.

Walkathon was such a success last year, we hope this year will be just as successful. Thank you as always to our families for all the many ways you support our school and our students!

Welcome and a Request for Help

Jag Families,

The school year has begun, and PTO hopes all HHMS students had a great first couple of days. We want to welcome all our new families who stopped by our PTO table at the 5th/6th grade Open House; it was nice meeting so many of you, and if we can be of any help, please do not hesitate to contact us at

Now we can use your help. The 7th/8th grade Open House is this Thursday, August 3 from 6-7:30. Most of us on the board have 7th or 8th graders and thus are unable to cover all our tables for PTO information, spirit wear, refreshments, goody bags, etc. We have a few volunteers who have stepped up, but we still need more help to be sure all our tables are staffed. Even if you are a completely new family, we can use you! If you are able to help, please email Volunteers should plan to be there about 20 minutes before the start of Open House. We appreciate any help you can give!

Have a great week at the GMS on the P–the Greatest Middle School on the Planet!

Gearing Up for Another School Year!

Jag Families,

First of all we’d like to welcome our incoming 5th grade and transfer parents who have already signed up for our email list. We’re happy to have you as part of the Greatest Middle School on the Planet (GMS on the P!). And for those parents who no longer have students at HHMS and no longer wish to receive emails, there is an unsubscribe link at the bottom of this message; we wish you and your students the best in your next school!

It’s hard to believe, but the end of summer is almost upon us! PTO is ready to hit the ground running, and we wanted to pass along important upcoming dates and events.

  • School schedules (all students) and locker information (6th-8th graders) will be arriving in the next few days.
  • School supply lists are available at
  • Counselors and office staff will be available at school on July 18th and 19th from 12-3pm and 4-7pm to answer any questions. These are also good days to take your student to test out their lockers and walk their schedules.
  • 5th Grade and New Student Orientation will take place on Friday, July 21st from 10:00am-12:00pm. Students will meet in the gymnasium.
  • Open House will be split into two days with 5th/6th on Wednesday, July 26 from 5:00-6:30pm and 7th/8th on Thursday, August 3 from 6:00-7:30. For both Open Houses, parents will walk their student’s schedule to meet teachers; more specific information will be included in a mailing from school.
  • First student day is Thursday, July 27!

For both Open Houses, PTO will be in the Commons to assist with school maps, spirit wear samples, information packets, free school-year calendar magnets, cookies, and punch. The first 200 families to arrive each night will get a free HHMS auto decal, and we will also have a drawing for an HHMS Jags stadium chair! Ernstberger Orthodontics has also generously donated some freebies for us to pass out to our families.

On that note, we will need some volunteer help to make Open House run smoothly. It would be helpful to have 5th/6th grade parents who can work 7th/8th grade night and 7th/8th parents who can work 5th/6th grade night. If you’re able to help, please email Volunteers should plan to be there 20 minutes early. Many thanks!

And as always, if you need to reach out to us, we’re on Facebook at , Twitter at , and on the Remind text system via the app (add @hhmsp) or by texting @hhmsp to 81010, or you can email us at  We hope everyone has a wonderful start to the school year!
